日本農業遺産第一号に選定された山古志。棚田や棚池が織りなす美しい景観は、今もなお日本の原風景を色濃く残しています。どこか懐かしく、訪れる人の心をそっと和ませてくれます。

錦鯉の発祥の地としても知られ、世界中の愛好家から特別な存在として親しまれてきました。さらに、国の重要無形民俗文化財である1000年続く牛の角突きなど、この土地ならではの文化が暮らしの中に息づいています。

唯一無二の景色や文化は、先人たちの知恵と努力によって築かれてきました。そして今もなお、多くの訪問者を魅了し続けています。

一方で、過疎化や超高齢化は深刻で、地域行事や伝統文化の継承、さらには地域産業の維持にも大きな課題をかかえています。

「地域のために何ができるのか」—明確な答えは見えないままですが、「自分にできることはある」と信じ、活動を続けています。

Yamakoshi, designated as Japan’s first Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) site, is a region where terraced rice fields and irrigation ponds create a stunning landscape that preserves the essence of Japan’s traditional rural scenery. There is a quiet nostalgia here that gently soothes the hearts of those who visit.

The area is also known as the birthplace of Nishikigoi (coloredl carp) and has long been cherished by enthusiasts around the world. In addition, unique cultural traditions continue to thrive in everyday life, including the thousand-year-old bullfighting event recognized as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan.

These one-of-a-kind landscapes and cultural practices have been shaped by the wisdom and dedication of generations past, and they continue to captivate visitors today.

At the same time, depopulation and extreme aging pose serious challenges, affecting the continuity of local festivals, traditional culture, and the sustainability of regional industries.

“What can be done for the community?” — while no clear answer has emerged, I continue my activities with the belief that there is always something I can contribute.
